Using ‘rib cartilage in rhinoplasty’ needs of attention both in patient’s and surgeon’s perspective.
1) Additional incision on the chest to harvest rib cartilage.
2) Possible harvest site complications including chest pain
3) Scar remaining where incised area.
4) Pneumothorax
5) More cost
6) Longer surgery time
7) Possibility of warping.
Rib cartilage is usually the last resort of autologous material for revision rhinoplasty.
It affords a lot of possibilities for rhinoplasty such as nasal bridge augmentation, tip grafts, and lots of septal grafts, all of which are not possible with other autologous sources.
It also means a lot of experience is necessary for skillful use of rib cartilage.
This lady had a revision rhinoplasty. She got nose job using silicone implant with previous surgery.
But She didn’t like her result, because she wanted to have natural result.
And also her nose length is not longer than she wanted.
Dr. Jin Hong-Ryul removed her silicone implant, and re-made her nose only using her own rib cartilage.
