The bulbous nose is a term to describe the shape of a big and broad nose.

The Bulbous nose can have a broad nasal bridge, broad nasal tip, and wide nasal ala.

Therefore, to resolve the broad nose has to analyze the patient’s shape of nasal anatomy.

1. Wide nasal bridge correction

Nasal bridge mainly composed of bone and cartilage.

So, it needs to narrow nasal bone.

Osteotomy is one of the methods of narrowing the nasal bone.

It also can use for deviated nose correction.

2. Wide nasal tip correction

If nose tip cartilage wide, stitching methods can use to narrow tip cartilage.

If the nose tip is flat, it can make higher using septal cartilage (in a case of primary), and relocate low tip cartilage to the more top position.

3. Wide nasal alar correction

Wide nasal ala can make the nose bulbous.

There are two surgical methods to resolve this.

Incision method – removing alar outer skin, and then suturing.

Tie up method – Just suturing a wide ala using medical stitches. This method has an advantage when alar and columella are wide.

Bulbous nose reduction

This is a case that had a bulbous nose reduction, and this rhinoplasty conducted by Dr. Cho Bae-Jung.

She had a flat nose and a wide nasal tip.

She did not like her nose, so she decided to have a rhinoplasty.

Dr. Cho made her nose tip high using donated rib cartilage.

Usually, nasal septal cartilage used for new tip support, but when the patient has a weak and insufficient septal cartilage, rib cartilage can be used as an alternative material.

Bulbous nose reduction

Dr. Cho used dermis for her nasal bridge.

The dermis has the advantage of making a natural nose shape.

After Bulbous nose reduction, she has a better nose with a better facial profile.
